The Sacrifice

(Scene 1)
[home]

Father:
Alright! Breakfast's ready!
[Carrying breakfast to the table]
Michelle, didn't i tell you to finish up your work last nite?!

Michelle:
[Frowns]
I'm just going through my work to make sure it's perfect...

Father:
Ya, sure...Now, hurry up and eat your breakfast or else I won't
let you follow me to my workplace later.

Michelle:
But Daddy..!! You promised!..And I want to see the choo-choo
trains and all...
[pauses and looks at breakfast]
..Eeeew!...What's that?!

Father:
That's my Special Easter French Toast of course!

Michelle:
....more like burnt toast..[giggles]
[sigh] Mommy wouldn't let her French toast get burnt, you
know. I miss her, Daddy...

Father:
I miss her, too...very, very much.

Michelle:
Do you think Mommy's in heaven? She's such a good gentle
loving person...I'm sure she's in heaven, isn't she?

Father:
Well, Michelle...being a good person doesn't mean you get to
heaven. Jesus is the only way to heaven. Didn't you learn that
in Sunday School? In John 3:16 it says....

Michelle:
[Cuts in] I know, I know!
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son
that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have
eternal life.
...Right, Daddy?

Father:
That's right.

Michelle:
[thinks]
But...I never really understood that verse. Why would God send
His beloved Son to die for us?

Father:
Well...

God in our likeness
For nothing less than love
Our Judge become our Saviour
To make a way for us.

The Cross, the Crown,
the Blood falling down,
the Love that cost
a price greater than all that we could pay.

Who can stand as righteous
A sinner saved by grace
The wrath of God was crucified
When Jesus took our place.
(Chris Tomlin - No Love Greater)

Michelle:
Hmmm...so, God gave His Son to die for us because He loves us
very, very much...right, Daddy?

Father:
Yes, and because He gave His son to die for us, all our sins are
forgiven. And if we believe in Him, we can all go to heaven!
..Yeah?

Michelle:
Yeah!
[pauses]
...Daddy?

Father:
Yes?

Michelle:
Will you ever give me up for something like that?

Father:
Michelle...I will never give you up for anything in the world.

(scene 2)
[home]

Elys:
Are you coming home for dinner?
[silence]
Did you hear me? Are you coming home for dinner?

Wayne:
No.

Elys:
Why not?

Wayne:
I have a gathering with the guys tonight.

Elys:
But it is Easter Sunday! And you've promised the kids you'd take
them out for ice-cream after dinner!

Wayne:
Ah, the kids will forget about it. It's just dinner anyway.

Elys:
It is just dinner?! You have never come home for 'just dinner', u know?!
It's always you and your guys! It is never coming home to your family, not even for dinner!

Wayne:
It is too far to come home for dinner and go back to the station after that! I have short breaks in between shifts! Besides, your cooking isn't that great, so why should I come home?!

Elys:
If it's not for me, atleast come home for the kids! They haven't seen you for almost a week!

Wayne:
They have their studies to worry about...
Why are you nagging me about them not seeing me?!..

Elys:
..Because they miss you! They miss their father!

Wayne:
I have to work! As their father, I need to work for money to keep this family alive! And all you do is just sit around at home and nag at me to come home all the time!

Elys:
Just come home...for Easter, alright?

Wayne:
No. I told you I'm meeting the guys.

Elys:
Can you just leave the guys this once and come home for Easter?

Wayne:
No! Look, this is getting nowhere. I'm not comin home and I won't!

[Slams door]

(scene 3)
[railway station]

Michelle:
Daddy!...My feet! It's stucked, Daddy!

Father:
Michelle! Oh, no...why did you go out there?!

[sound of train approaching]

Michelle:
Daddy!...There is a train coming! Help!!!

Wayne:
Is that someone at the tracks?!

Michelle:
Daddy!...I don't want to die!!

Wayne:
[paging] Station 47! station 47! There is someone stucked at the interchange of the tracks. Are you aware of that?!

Father:
[Panicking] Yes! I know! That's my daughter! Please stop the train!

Wayne:
It is too late to do anything now!

Michelle:
Daddy!...save me!!!

Wayne:
The other rail has broken tracks, you can't send us there! Everyone on this train will die!!!

Father:
But that's my daughter!!!

Michelle:
Daddy...!! I don't want to die!! The train is coming!!!

Wayne:
This train is carrying thousands of lives, you can't send us all down there!

Father:
But...that's my Michelle!

Wayne:
It's either your daughter or the thousands of lives here. We can't sacrifice them for just one life!

Michelle:
DADDY...!!! HELP........!!!!

***

(scene 4 - second chance)

Father:
[crying]
Michelle...I'm sorry...but because of you, thousands have a second chance in life.
...I love you.

Wayne:
The little girl died for us...
...I could've died...but I was given a second chance...
I should go back to my family.

***

Michelle's father sacrificed his daughter so that the many people in the train may live. He does not even know these people onboard neither has he any connection with them, and yet he had to sacrifice Michelle.

In the same way, God has sacrificed his Son, Jesus to die for us. We are like the people on the train, doomed to death. But because Jesus took our place, God gave us a way out - salvation through Jesus Christ.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

John 3:16

The sacrifice has already been made. Jesus has already paid the price. It is up to us now to shut Him out or to accept Him.
Amazing Love
